Hi, I’m Katie, the artist behind Ampersand Artistry.
I've been working in Hair & Makeup for over a decade, beginning my career in film, television and editorial, where I learnt very quickly that makeup has to do more than look good in person- it needs to work beautifully on camera, in different lighting and on every type of skin.
Later, my experience working with beauty brands and in product development really shaped the way I approach makeup today. I became completely fascinated by skin- how you prepare it, how products sit on it, and how much you can achieve with the right prep, without covering everything up.
Somewhere along the way, I realised that the traditional idea of “bridal makeup” didn't really resonate with me. I loved creating something softer, fresher and much more individual. Makeup that still lets you see your skin, your freckles and, most importantly, YOU!
That's still at the heart of everything I do now. Whether I'm getting you ready for your wedding, teaching you how to make sense of your makeup bag or working with you on a shoot, my approach is relaxed, considered and completely tailored to the person in front of me.
And while I care a lot about the details, I also want the experience itself to feel easy. I'll bring the calm, keep things running smoothly and make sure you feel looked after, so you can relaaax, enjoy the moment and feel genuinely excited about the person looking back at you in the mirror!
WHEN I'M NOT HOLDING A MAKEUP BRUSH...
I'm usually somewhere in the Hampshire countryside with my family, with my nose buried in a Romantasy (Sarah J Maas I'm looking at you), or finding a good excuse for a doughnut.
I love to surf, go to spin and pole classes, and generally attempt to keep on top of life with two little boys. I'm a big believer that there's very little that a bit of sunshine and a massive glass of water can't fix... and if all else fails, colour-coding your calendar definitely counts as being productive.
